engine problem please help

hi all, i am posting on behalf of a pal of mine who owns a 1989 2.8 v6 firebird the other day he went around a corner quite low on fuel and the car misfired since then the car has been running crap!. it seems to idle ok but every now and then will drop in rpm and will stall or almost stall.

more of a problem than that is that the car misfires and splutters badly between 3000-4000 rpm.

any ideas....we have tried changing the Fuel filter, cleaned the air intake , removed the spark plugs and cleaned them up

Sounds like a miss but it could be the fuel pump.
