about a month ago i put accel coils on my car.
yesterday i sent one back to summit racing because it was causeing a mis fire. today i got in my car to go to work and got another mis fire. changed the next coil in line and it fixed the problem.

so in the last 45 days i have had to change two accel coils. i know it isnt the ignition module because i can put on the stock ones and it runs fine. i asked one of the techs where i work and he said the accel coils use more power and may need a bigger ground. thoughts anyone.

I ordered 3, one was messed up and took it back... got all 3 on finally, car ran like hell... did diagnostic " for a fee b/c I didn't think it could possibly be my brand new coils" coils were bad, took them back, got new ones, car ran like hell... another diagnostic " b/c I believed that they had 2 have made a mistake tha 1st time b/c my brand new coils couldn't possibley be bad" coils were bad... I took them back and damn near choked every employee in the building, got my money, and screetched out of the parking lot on my GM tester coils~which I am still running b/c I haven't got cought back up enough yet 2 get the msd's b/c I already ordered my zo6 rivet wheels....

        Re: ACCEL coils

I know this is an old thread... but I think it needs reviving for those that wonder about these coils... maybe this is a topic that's been discussed many times... but I searched and this seemd like the most relevant to what I've just experienced...

If I had to describe these coils with 1 word, it would probably be "crap"... I know there are those out there that run these and have no problems whatsoever... so that leads me to believe they are very hit and miss... In the last 3 weeks, I have gone through 2 seperate packs of 3 Accel DIS coils (6 in all), and none (zero, 0, notta) have come close to working right... once I had them in I would start it up and it would misfire horribly... then finally die after about 8 seconds of running like crap... Every single time I wanted to start it to try something new... they would blow a fuse... I'm gonna send them back for some MSD's which hopefully will go better for a little more money... My advice, like many here is to stay away and stick with the stockers... or if the MSD's work... spend the extra 15$... anyway... I better get back to work putting the old ones in...

            Re: ACCEL coils

I run with an optima red top... it has treated me pretty good so far... even with my system... maybe it's another one of those hit and miss...

yeah... I was thinking about posting a thread like that with "good", "risky", and "bad" catagories... but I'm sure there's someone with a lot more experience than me that would make a better one...

Anyway... got the stockers back in... started up like a charm... I'm gonna send the Accels back to summit... this time for a refund... then I'll go and buy the MSD's from a place here in Tyler that sells them for a little bit cheaper... y'all might wanna check it out... www.daymotorsports.com

leave the stockers in and don't worry about getting the MSD ones, save your money. The stockers are the best for our cars.

                Re: ACCEL coils

my stock coils are starting to act up and cause a very bad missfire under heavy acceleration (car goes and jerks and goes and jerks like your riding a rodeo bull or something) so im gonna replace them with the MSD coils...i already have the MSD plug wires on there anyways plus i need a little upgrade in my ignition system

                  Re: ACCEL coils

I've heard of people having problems with msd coils.
                  stock > all

But yes, a Product Review/Consumer Report database would be REALLY cool for
everyone to leave their feedback and rating on a product.

I dont care, just make it for the donators!

So if im driving along on the highway and my car is like really jerky is that a misfire? like it only does it if my foot is barely on the pedal but when i push the pedal over half way down it wont do it but it will blow out alot of black smoke it built up from running rich????can a misfire cause running rich.

                          Re: ACCEL coils

a misfire will definately cause you to run rich for a split second because all that fuel that was injected into the cylinder doesnt get burnt.

A misfire has been described as a violent jerk, but a loss of power for a split second (very hard for me to describe / hard to say from your description)

like mine is more of a continous jerking if i have the pedal barely pressed like cruising on the highway or something but if i push the pedal any further theres none kinda weird?

A scanner tool would tell you for sure, if available for your car
