I had the same type of oil leak and replaced the drain plug gasket. No leaks!
While your at it, maybe get one of them $2 dollar magnetic drain plugs. I decided NOT to purchase a $50 FilterMag http://filtermag.com/ just to see if metal shavings do get caught in the oil filter.
I also used Lucas Oil Treatment with 4 quarts of your favorite synthetic during the oil change. It has drastically reduced my oil leak in my Firebird, give it a shot.Black \'96 RS Camaro, 3.8 V6 Series II, M5, Stock 200 HP, 204K miles!
