hey i got a 97 camaro with i little over 105 k miles on it and i was drivin it yesterday and when i punched the gas it started puttering and hesitating , but when i gradually accelerate its putters slightly i was wonderin if anyone know what it is ? let me know thanx

I had the exact same problem, except someone had poured flour in my tank (and yes I know it's supposed to be sugar, some of these kids running around these days are just stupid).
Just replace the fuel filter and the problem will probably go away. Just as a side note; after you have the filter out, feel how much it weighs. If it is alot heavier than the new filter, then it did its job and it was time to replace. It's the cheapest thing to try.

Hey i got the same problem with my 00 firebird. i have 99k miles on it. i replaced the egr valve, spark plugs, wires, checked all the fuse. drove the car around the block, the car still putters when you accelerate and has a loud nose like it's an 8 when it's only a 6 and i can smell something funky from the exhaust. Any other suggestions you have in regards to help solving this problem is greatly appreciated. by the way my SES light would come on and blink and then go away. Kind of frustrated don't know what else need to do. Thanks for any info out there.

by the way i just recovered this car back. it was stolen in my driveway stripped off it's wheels and sound system and speakers, and passenger t-top, cut off driver seatbelts and broken door panels. It was running good for a while. Then when i was driving down on the freeway and i punched the gas and it started to putter and hesitate. Help just want to get this baby back up and running like it used to.

is it an egg smell coming from exhaust? It could be a plugged cat.

i had the same problem in my 99 firebird. under light acceleration or idle, it was running good, but under load, it started to missfire. I wasnt getting any SES lights untill i really got on it. When i really got on it the SES light came up. I took it to autozone and got it scanned, missfire on cylinder 5. I bought new wires and plugs and had them reset the code. I took it home easy and took the middle coil pack and swapped it with the front one. i got on it again, light came on and took it back, now it wasnt cylinder 5 missfireing, it was another cylinder, bought a new coil for 20 bucks and threw it on there and she has been running okay ever since. when you have a missfire it is always a good idea to change the plugs because they will be fouled out. but with the plugs on these cars and how EASY they are to get too, lol, i wanted to make sure that it was my coil before changing the plugs first and then turnning out to be a coil. just a thought.

Thanks for the advice, Its an unusual smell, kind of funky, i'm going to get the coil pack check today and if that does not work then i'm going to check the cat. i called the dealer they say it cost about $800-$900 for the cat. *&ht is expensive.

lol, don't get a stock replacement! You can get a carsound cat for like 60 bucks and have a shop install it.

my *** is inpatient just to get my car back up and running like it used to. i notice the increase in horsey power when i replaced the fuel filter, plugs and coils and egr valve. and i think i will withdraw on the stock and take your advice since it's so pricey. I can't wait to get this car running and slap on the new sounds. It's going to be better than before. I wish bad karma to those bandits who stole my s*&t! what comes around goes around. thanks all for the advice can't wait to get home and work on my car.

no prob. hopefully you can get everything figured out. But yea def. go with a high flow carsound cat instead of a stock replacement.

took the car to auto zone and ran diff kind of test still can't figure what's wrong with the car also tested coil packs and in good condition poured some sea foam. kind of help out a little. but still hesitate during acceleration. My last resort is the dealer which is going to hurt my wallet.

When you got the fuel filter changed, did you keep the filter, cause sometimes is good to cut them open with tin snips & see what kinda crud was in there, maybe stuff is getting to the injectors...
