Just started this morning. When I'm driving the RPMS read just fine but the Speedometer reads 0, sometimes it will jump around but it will fall back to 0... Anyone know whats up?
Is this a cheap fix I can do myself? I pray it is...
Sounds like a Vehicle Speed Sensor. They shouldnt be all that expensive and its not that hard to replace but it involves getting underneath the vehicle a fair bit. Its on the Transmission tailshaft where the driveshaft meets the tranny and its usually held in with a simple 10mm bolt. Just unplug it, unbolt it, put new one in bolt it in then plug it up and that should do it.

But no other gauge is bouncing around... Just the Speedo... and I've driven for hours and hours it seems the car would have died by now...
Are you sure it's the speedometer sensor in the tranny? From what I hear, if it's bad, you won't beable to shift out of 1st... I've beenable to cleanly shift in the A4...
definitely sounds like a vss. is yours a manual? when i put in amy jet scu2000 i used a crappy ground and it kept dieing on me, wouldnt even shift my auto. you need to undo anything you did the other day, and see what that helps.
sounds like a half bad connection somewhere. its pretty much something you have to diagnose on your own.

Okay VSS is the sensor in the transmission right and NOT the cable right? Also where does it ground to? Gimme a location because I don't know where code B12 is or anything like that. Does it ground under the Shifter Console? is the VSS anywere under the shifter console?
...Also I banged on my dashboard and the speedometer moves around alittle... about 15 MPH increments... Nothing else moves... Is it normal for the speedo to fluctuate after banging on the dash?

I was under there and plain couldn't find it period... Not the plug or the VSS and I was looking around where the driveshaft meets the tranny. I looked from the tranny mount and came across a linkage between the tranny and the cat and an O2 sensor wire but I doubt seriously if it has anything to do with the speedo...
I hit a bump and boom, Speedo works again like it never failed before. It's reading just fine and accurate like nothing happened. Anyone have a clue as to what just happened?
Are there any grounds whatsoever for the VSS or Speedo I need to be aware of? Where?
