On my car both sides of the intake behind the MAF screen are inaccessible. The right side where it looks like the IAC would be is a plastic plate that's pop riveted in place. The left side is also pop riveted and has some type of sensing unit attached. What is this and why do I not have access. It looks like I need to pull the entire unit off the TB to clean the sensors. Any help is appreciated.

You have a computer controlled throttle body. The IAC is actually the throttle blade itself.Matt

I too have thought about this and wanted to ask. What kind of maintenance do we have to perform (if any) on these Electonic or Computer Controlled Throttle Bodies?
Cleaning? Lubrication?

I just spray a bunch of throttle body cleaner in there. Note with the ETC there isn't a cable to hold it open while you spray - I turn the key to run (engine off) and either put something heavy on the gas pedal or get someone to hold it down while I spray everything out good.Drivetrain Moderator - "There are no stupid questions, only stupid people!"

I was comparing my throttle body to StrtRacer98's. The throttle controls are diffrent, anyone know why, his looks much more complicated. Both of us have the same 97 cars?http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2245261 Green 1997, 105k, all stock except for Z28 front springs, Air shocks in the rear, home made coolant recovery tank, home made battery hold down.

Yeah my setup is different than both of you guys. It really only looks like there's one 10mm bolt holding the whole thing in place. There must be a lip on the bottom that locks it in place. I'll rip it out this weekend. Thanks. Thanks guys. I'm going to pull the ETC off and clean it when I do my lid/cold air, smooth pipe, and K&N filter mods, but gotta wait till it warms up around here (spring). Now Playing: \'99 Pewter Firebird, stock, bone stock, and nothing but stock, so help me God!
Comming attractions: K&N Filter, Lid Mod, Intake Bellows Smooth Pipe Mod.
I dream about: Forced Induction (TC or SC) or NOX (or both!)
