    Exhaust gases are hot, but not as hot as during combustion. Since the exhaust has already been through combustion it can't be burned again, so it's just an inert gas that doesn't really do anything. By sending it back through the intake, the exhaust gases just take up space that could be used by clean air. Less air in the chamber means there will be a smaller "explosion".

        has anyone actaully seen a gain from blocking off or taking the egr off? wehn i get headers, i really dont want to deal with making it fit..
