my brother drove into a hole with water and scratched the bottom of the car. now the car losses power from 1,700rpm to 3,000 rpm and it's a lot slower, also it shakes. on hills it does the same. what could this be a sensor on the trans? it's a stick t-5 thank you

Uhh, what do you mean by "scratches on the bottom of the car"?? Normally when you hit a pothole, the performance doesn't die-off. Did he hit a pothole or something much larger...?

There could be MANY reasons why the his car lost performance. SES light, last tuneup, etc.>?

Hole w/ water, loss of power, shakes? Coil packs/misfire maybe? Explain some more.

well i will check the coils and spark tomorrow. but when going up a hill it starts to shake and that's when i feel the loss of power. the shaking feels from the trans. but also when i try to get a good acceleration i don't feel it as fast as it was.

i do need O2 before and after the cat but it wasn't like that before. i just put headers on my car. but it ran fine when we made the trip to ft. worth then comming back from it we stapped there was a pothole and my brother went in to it it was pretty deep then it started from there really.

Could be a bad tranny mount... Rubber doesn't like getting wet or soaked in oil...

check your air filter assembly and make sure it is clean, i.e. no water.

check your tranny fluid and oil. put the car on jackstands or ramps and look underneath to find anything loose, broken, cracked, etc.

have someone drive beside you as you are driving and see if the wheels wobble while goind down the road. put the rear on jackstands and put it into gear. be careful, but look under to see if the driveline is bent, or if the rear axle wobbles, shakes, shimmies, moonwalks, etc.

also check to see you didnt cause any spark plug wires to be disconnected. headers dont like going from a few hundred degrees to 50 either so check for leaks, cracks, etc.

put some high octane fuel and some heet into your car. im pretty sure you sucked up some water.

i went through 1.5+ ft. mud hole once in my buddy's 94 maro and it barely made it home. it was totalled so we thought what the hey. it didnt like to accelerate and when i pulled the air filter off it was like soap suds throughout the intake assembly.

hey Need4Camaro, do your tires shrink up or crack when you drive in the rain, does your door seals evaporate when it rains, and do you think our tranny mount gets a little wet in the rain anyways?? water WILL NOT hurt your tranny mount. not to sound like im flaming you, but i wanted you to understand completely from my point of view. ;)

hitting something can definitely break or misalign stuff. does your car pull to one side or just shimmy down the road.

did you hit something hard or just go through the pothole quickly.

if you dont want to check for wabbles and stuff take it to les schwab and they will check it out for free. tell them you want them to check it and see if something is wrong. and if there is you will have your dad or something come by tomorrow to have it done. that way you arent stuck with them fixing it right then and there if it is something you can fix yourself, and the cool thing is is that if is FREE.

print out my post and go spend some time checking these things out and looking for anything that doesnt seem right under your car. have extra sets of eyes as well. i have had girls that have never looked under a hood find or spot problems i overlooked.

your next post 96 whitemaro should be an answer to all my questions and info on what you found.

this will then give us the proper information I/we need to help you troubleshoot and solve your problem.

also, it wouldnt hurt to buy a manual and read up on your cars systems and components. the more familiar you are with your car the quicker and easier it will be to understand and work on your car, as well as save hundreds if not thousands on mechanic bills.

                        good luck!

p.s. to check your coil packs, pull each plug wire off ONE AT A TIME and clean off the male end on the coil. make sure no moisture/water is in the plug. do so with each wire one at a time so u dont mix up the firing order. then remove the coils from their mounting plate and clean underneath the coils and on the mounting plate. ensure your coils and connections are clean and are most importantly, free from moisture.

we went through the pothole slow b/c it hit the body first he didn't know how deep it was. but i'll check somethings out i didn't have chance since it was raining. if it's the trany mount would it shake when it's not in gear and i rev? b/c it doesn't

It sounds like you got some water in there. Run some seafoam through it.

That is the only thing I would say different from "Die Ford V8"

i would have said something about putting seafoam in instead of octane and heet, but wasnt to sure how it would neutralize the water in the intake system. seafoam wont hurt for sure though and since it is a 96 and seafoam is cheap i would agree to give the seafoam a go.
