  • ...No SES...So where's my power?!...

Okay, Basicly this is whats happening...

I have no codes or SES...

Come out to drive and car runs like total crap, I darn near have to gun it to get on the freeway and it's very hesitant... let it drive up hill and it will NOT automaticly downshift into 3rd gear to climb even when engine is struggling... unless I pretty much punch it... Car stumbles when accelerating but not hard just...barely enough to notice...Engine sounds very rasp...

Come out later, car runs perfectly fine?!?!... Gets up and accellerates with EASE...Engine sounds strong as all H-E-DOUBLE-L... 200 Ponies MAGICALLY return like nothing happened at all... Climbs hills with ease and even appropriately downshifts for them...

Here's the last occasions I've had the SES...

#1 O2 Sensor... Replaced with Bosch Sensor
#2 EGR Valve... Replaced with used EGR (I was broke)
#3 AIT... Replaced with a $10.00 part from Autozone and sense then... no more SES...
#4 P1870 Code... Required Tranny rebiuld with Sonnax Kit...

    I'm pretty much stock...
I'm going to try replacing the plugs and wires and pray for the best... any other suggestions? Whats going on with my car?

Could be a chunk of your cat getting in the exhaust flow, and moving around which would explain the return of the power. This wouldn't necessarily cause a SES light as long as the cat is still functional.

My guess would be Wires... Does't it act up when its wet? If it is the wires it will slowely get worse and then just become darn near undrivable.

But as V8 killer said, if you still have stock wires and plugs replace them anyway even if it isn't the problem because they need it.

Yeah, I'm going to do a tuneup this weekend... as for acting up when wet... I have noticed that it becomes worse and worse in the rain and slowly returns to normal on sunny days... It's like when I give it a clunk of gas it feels like the wheels spin but I go nowere... and I don't even think the wheels are spinning it's just backfiring...

If it's back firing it's probably wires and plugs. I'd do a thorough tune up on it and see if that doesn't help. If not... it's probably you're cat.

                Okay... UPDATE!!!

                Changed my...

                - Oil + Lucas Addative - Nice performance Increase/Oil Pressure rise...

                - Transmission Fluid - Again, smoother accelleration, good performance increase... It was low and I accidently overfilled it by two quarts so the shop I warrantied with fixxed it up for me...

                - PVC Valve - I should be getting better fuel milage...

                - Fuel Filter - Car cranks RIGHT up without hesitation, rough idle disapears, I should be getting better fuel milage...

                GOING TO CHANGE MY...

                Sparkplugs and Wires - Today

                Differential Fluid - Tomorrow

No hesitation anymore, no studdering at all... Still though it feels like for the amount of gas pedal I'm giving it I should be going faster and sometimes the car doesn't respond to hills unless I give it a chunk of gas... It will just lose 10 MPH worth of speed without downshifting... Nothing MAJOR but annoying...
