  • Low Oil Pressure, Temp 240-260, and Security Light.

I was driving along in the horrible SOCAL traffic. And I notice my "Security Light" goes on. I pull over and pull out my OBDII scanner and try to read it. No Codes to read. So I restart my and it does its normal cycle and goes off shortly.
About 3 minutes later, My Check Guage light comes on, and my Oil Rressure is around 20, my temp shooting past 240 and my voltage just a tad low(Could have been because my lights and sterio were on).

I pull over, and let the car sit, and add some water to the DRY resevoir tank. And as soon as I start the car, the temp shoots ups and then falls back to normal at 200-210 and the oil pressure just a little low at 40psi.

But what would cause the oil pressure to drop and the temp to shoot up.

No leaks as far as I can tell.

Hate to say it, but check for oil in coolant and/or oil/coolant loss without a leak. Check if the oil on the dipstick is watery.

I was thinking the same thing. I was able to check the oil. The oil seemed normal, just kinda dirty and burnt. Even though it is only 750 miles old.

There wasn't any coolant in the reserve tank. And the system was to hot to open the cap. I will have to check tomarrow for oil in the coolant.

I took a short 3 mile drive to my friends house tonight, and all it was all back to normal, as if nothing happened.

well if it weren't for the low coolant I'd say it sounds like an electrical problem, those gauges can do all sorts of crazy things if you have a bad ground or something, the security light issue followed by everything else whigging out is what makes me think that, something you might want to try is if these things start acting up again, look at the temp gauge, then plug in your scanner and see what it is telling you as far as temp, if there is a diff you might have some kind of short in the dash

I think thats it. Cause my cars guages are fine now. Except oil pressure hangs just a few pounds lower than usual.

Im just gonna take it easy, and see what happens.
