  • shorted out wires, blew fuses.. help!

Was hooking me neons up to switchs, in a switch panel I had gotten. Well everything was hooked up, turned them on, and after about 2 minutes started smoking real bad... Needless to say all the wires shorted out, all the switches blew, and some fuses blew, as well as fuse to horn and my radar detector...

Anyone know what happened? I wanna get this all in and done before car show, but at this rate, I dont think its going to happen...

Bad connection somewhere along the lines. Check your ground wires too.
You may get faster help in the Stereo/Electronics Section though...

Sounds to me like you had a loose or bad ground. What did you ground the lights and switches to? Also MAKE SURE on your switches that your ON / POWER wires are in the least bit NOT touching "GROUND" wire...

when ever you have a bad or loose ground it will flicker on and off or not work at all.

in this case you either have a + wire touching a - wire. or a + wire ground out to a metal suface.

i dont know howyou hooked it up but the best way is to hard wire it. this way it will not affect any vitals to you car.

to do this you have to run a wire from you positive terminal on the battery into the car. sounds hard so most people dont do it.

but its not all you have to do is:
        1. get some 16 guage wire wrap one end around the positive terminal.
        2. pull the computer and run the wire throught he gromment beind there.
        3. pull in into the car by removing the panel below the glove box.
        4. then hook it to your switches.

ill try my best to help you get this done asap.
how did you wire it as is?

I didn't wire any of it, my Dad did. He has the one who has been doing the electrical stuff like that to my car... So I will see.

Thanks Artic, I will see about maybe doing that. But I work all the week so it wont be anytime he week I can even think about starting on it again.
