Owner's manual should tell you. I haven't read up on the f-body, but on the 2002 Venture, the computer tracks engine speed, duration of rpm range, and several other factors all integrated to tell you when it thinks it needs oil. It does NOT work just by mileage, but on the actual usage of the engine. It makes a lot more sense this way.1997 Mystic Teal Firebird w/ T-tops
3800 II V6 A4
Custom dual exhaust, modified airbox, K&N filter, ground effects, more to come...

What is weird I took my care to the dealership I bought it at to have the oil changed when the light came on. I saw the guy type in my information into the computer and in the comments secion he typed "Waiter..." I guess they were commenting on the fact I waited till the light came on.
Also, when I left they put a sticker on my window showing the mileage at the next 3000 mile interval. Wouldn't you think a GM dealer would follow GM's recommendation and use the Oil Change light?
Also, when I put my CAI in I unhooked the battery. Would this have reset the oil change monitor?SLP CAI, K&N, Whisper Lid, 180* thermo, manual fan switch, 3.42 gears, Auburn Pro LSD, Wester\'s PCM Tuning, TSP Rumbler, High Flow Cat. Best Time: 9.909@71.58 (1/8 mile)

Waiter means you waited on the car, they didnt drive you home and call you later.
I dont go by this system, and I don't extend my drain intervals past 5,000 miles. I tend to change mine every 3,000.2002 5-spd NBM Camaro

Ok, that makes sense
I have only had the car since last October so it has only needed one change according to the light. It came on at 5,000 miles (just a tad over actually). According to the info I read about it at the dealer it will come on between 3,000-7,500 miles.SLP CAI, K&N, Whisper Lid, 180* thermo, manual fan switch, 3.42 gears, Auburn Pro LSD, Wester\'s PCM Tuning, TSP Rumbler, High Flow Cat.
