  • Camaro Chuggin

I'm new to the camaro life. I have a 97 3.8 v-6 and well when i bought the car it was running fine, heck i drove it north to ohio a couple times, now that im back at ft campbell, i try to drive up the 41-A and once i hit a hill, the camaro acts like its chuggin.. its hard to explain but it doesnt have the power, and it acts like the engine is going to cut out. I use 83 octane i think it is... the mid grade, and i have never had a problem with this fuel company, heck im a petroleum supply specialist in the army... But the problem im having is when i apply the gas pedal the engine acts like its going to cut out, or its not getting fuel, maybe not getting a proper spark. it drives fine when i'm not applying the pedal to climb a hill, or try to pass someone, it does it when i first gun the engine to climb a hill or to pass but after a couple seconds, it doesnt do it...

Example: Driving at 55mph, want to speed up to 65mph, the engine chuggs like its cuting out or not getting fuel, or spark. once i hit the gas RPMS rev high and car hits 65-70 in no time. Once im at that speed and let off the pedal a little she drives fine. untill i start to climb up a hill.

Can someone please tell me what could be going wrong? the engine has been replaced even though the computer says there is over 100,000 miles on it, the engine has less than 50k. I cant figure out whats wrong...

    Thanks,

I might have an idea. That's basically the same thing that was happening to mine about a month ago. It would drive fine around town, but when I'd take it on the highway and it a hill, it would start sputtering and act like it wanted to die. Another member on here, Alieninv8r, was having a similar problem as well.

Mine was a combination of two problems. For starters, I only had about three good plug wires out of six. Im sure you can imagine how much THAT was helping my car run lol. The other problem was the fact that my EGR valve, and my intake, was very badly clogged. After they changed the plugs and wires, and cleaned jsut about everything out, she ran like a dream, probably even better than when I first bought her.

I'd say the first thing to try for you would be the plugs and wires. If you're not throwing up an SES light, then that would probably be you ronly problem. However, if you're getting a light as well, it could very well be your EGR Valve too.

          Hope this helps you out.

The best type of fuel would be unleaded octane..but I believe you are referring to what grade to use..It's very debatable, and has been discussed in depth on here before..I use 93 octane.
