LOL I've used that method for 15 years and never got so much as a tingle. It's not AC dude. If you're that worried about it you can pull the plug as Ian suggested and ground the electrode. Save yourself the $15.

Dealership says its the fuel pump. They guessed over the phone. How hard is it to replace? I gather its inside the tank?

NNNOOOOOOO! Do not listen to the dealer!

A coworker had intermittant starting problems on his T/A and he took it to the dealer. They said it was the fuel pump, charged him to pull the tank and replace it, and it did not fix the problem. Notes on the service ticket said the tech even tested the pump and found no problem. To top it off, they cracked the filler tube somehow in the removal/reinstallation process and refuse to admit it or fix it - now they want to charge him again to pull the tank and for a whole new tank! He took the car to a small private garage and they correctly diagnosed the problem as the ICM.

You said you are getting fuel pressure. If the plugs are wet the pump should be good enough to start the car anyway.

Funkz, you're right. NOW i'm not sure if the plugs r bad or if its the fuel. I"m told it could be a clogged injector.... i'm going to remove them and the rails etc etc. How do you clean the stock injectors? I have a spark testing tool, so we'll figure this out tomorow. Thanks for all the help guys. If you're ever in VA, the first rounds on me!

Viper is right. I once got 2 plug wires swapped by mistake. The car would start and barely idle. Not likely that 3 injectors got clogged at the same time though. Have you checked the fuel filter if you think it might be fuel related?

                            BTW Just FYI I have a 99 A4 with 30k miles

The fuel filter has less than 1000 miles on it. Here's what happened with the fuel pressure:

Attached the fuel pressure gauge to the schrader valve.

                            Turned Ignition to On

                            Needle registered 40 psi.

There's a button on the side of the fuel pressure gauge that lets the pressurized fuel out a hose. Once you relieve the pressure, the needle doesn't come back up again.... normal?

I think i need an ICU

                            Your thoughts?
