Ok, here we go guys. Something we all fear at times, something that tricks the hell out of us, and also pisses us off.
------The Random SES Light----------
I notice every once in a while my damn 3.4 will turn on the SES light.. most of the time it's just while driving down the road everything is smooth and fine and it just kicks on. What do you know, when i restart my car its gone, wallah. This SES light does NOT happen often. In fact ive had my car for about 6 months and it has RARELY done it.. Yet, it still happens. What could be the cause of this? i have a '94.. ive had mannnnnny parts replaced its almost like a new car, i have roudnly 87,000 miles on the baby and she drives like a pearl... the last thing i wanna worry about is my SES light popping up cause yes, ive put a ton of money into fixing up the car and seems like everytime im done, something else ****s up.. does anyone else get this random SES? ...

Secondly, I wanna know everyones mileage for their 3.4 and how well has it treated you? Put much money into repairs? if so, when and what happened and how much? i wanna hear it all.. cause i love my 3.4 its very very fast, jumpy etc.. and i only have minor mods.. cat/flowmaster/k&n.. etc..

Sounds like the infamous EGR-caused SES light. If it threw a code though, you will have a "History Code" stored in your computer. You can stop by any local Autozone and they will scan the code so you can get to the bottom of it.

My first 3.4L V6 engine had about 80K miles on it before it seized. I didn't have too many mods done to the car at this point. I wasn't into fixing the car up way back then and to this day, I still don't know the true reason that it seized...oh well.

Second engine had about the same amount of miles on it before I spun a main bearing. This was due to a spun cam bearing, resulting in inadequate oiling of the mains. I am finishing this rebuild right now...should be done in about 2 weeks.

BTW, where in Southern Indiana are you?

My 94 3.4 has around 140k miles on it... still runs great, minus the vibration when sitting still, only problem I've had was a blown head gasket, thankfully no damage to block or heads. That happened @ around 115k miles. I've had no problems since then. Mine has no mods. When I blow this engine, I'll be looking for something bigger

My 94 3.4 is going on 98k. Got it just over a year ago with 94k. Most of what I have done to it is preventive maintenance and couldn't give a fair pricing due to getting parts discounted from the shop I work in and labor myself. A list of required replacements:

Alternator(twice, first was defective)

Tensioner and Serp belt

Outer tie rod end(replaced both along with the rack and pinion, had a little too much play in the worm gear for my liking)

And gutted the cat to stop the rattling

Center console lid(not required, just annoying)

Other than that it's all been preventive: rear shocks and springs, Transmission flush, oil change every 1500 miles, accumulator & Expansion valve plus two evac and charges(A/c wasn't cool enough and did this before i checked the TSB's, turns out in 93/94 or 94/95 our cars had a defective climate control cable, that wouldn't allow the mixer door to shut completely) so replaced the cable, Pads and rotors

One wheel cylinder is leaking right now, but I'm debating whether to do a disc conversion or replace rear drums and hardware.
