My car comes stock with a 180 thermostat and I was wondering if a 195 would be ok to put in it? I've heard that in colder weather you want a warmer stat. Is that true?

I know if it says 180 then its ok but my question was will a 195 hurt me at all?? And by the colder weather comment I wasn't talkin about below 0 I was just simply saying colder weather, as in winter.

Going to a 195 should not hurt the engine, however keep in mind that aside from the first 5 minutes or so after startup, the engine is going to run at 195 or higher.

I live in PA and replaced my stock 195 with a 180. No way I was going with a 160 though with winters up here. ;)

Birdman, did you pull it to see what was in it? Or are you using the modification encyclopedia/database? This site is wrong on alot of that it seems. You likely had the 195* t-stat in there stock. If you have the 180* by some chance stock, keep it in there. Midland's climate will be fine with the 180*, it just takes a minute or so longer in the morning for the heater to work well in the winter.
