  • hard misfire sometimes, IAC related?

Every once in a while my car will barely move and if i floor it the SES light flashes then stays on. I looked up the code and it says random misfire.

It runs fine 95% of the time. Every once in a while it just runs like crap. my wires are good and the plugs are ok. Its obvious that its not any of those anyway since it runs great. it is almost like one of the coil packs likes to stop working for 30 seconds then returns to normal.

its a 96 so if anyone has had the same problems let me know. hmmmmm cant figure it out.

oh and keep in mind i dont want to throw money(that i dont have) at it and hope it solves the problem. i.e. "get new coil packs and see if that works."

the IAC sometimes sticks, but that only seems to make my car idle high sometimes. you dont the the IAC is the culpret do you?
    thanks in advance

Update, my car misses every once in a while now. the SES light will come on only if i floor it while it is running bad. otherwise i can baby it and it will eventually go away until i want to drive it next.

It is such a misfire or whatever that the car shutters like i am driving over rocks. has anyone ever heard of coil packs working great and then one cylinder not working for a minute or two???

ive had that same code on mine before. it is possible for a bad coil pack, however, the problem with mine was the plate that the coil pack sits on (ICM)

Sounds like coil packs to me... and you'll probably wanna change your plugs as well, b/c they'll get fouled b/c the cylinder isn't firing.

when i get the extra cash(yeah right) i will change the plugs.

it hasnt done it for a few days now, so maybe its allllll better. i hope so but am somewhat doubtful.

i know there are millions of search things on plugs, but i am still not sure what to get. i was thinking the platinum four prong since they gaurantee a difference, but am not sure how long they will last.

will keep you posted on whatelse happens or doesnt happen. thanks guys

have your exhaust pressure checked before the cat converter, if it is above 6psi and your car is less than 8 years old it will be covered by the dealer assuming that you have not altered any parts in that area of your car.
