  • horrible gas mileage...computer?

i have used a half of a tank of gas since thurdsay and maybe have gone 50 miles. i have no idea what is wrong, but since i did the fuel pump install i have gotten horrendous gas mileage. the things i am thinking of are:

computer: dealership has said that my wiring is really messed up, like a previous owner hacked it up with scissors. the reason i find it believable is because i havent got a SES light in a month even with all the heavy misfiring problems.

fuel pump lines: there are four lines runnning out of the fuel pump, and they were all a ***** to reconnect because they were about 1" behind the cut i made with the dremel. i was able to get them clamped back together, or so i think. the interior still smells like gasoline because i havent found any goddamn places that sell sheet metal to cover the hole. i checked back there and dont see any puddles of gasoline or anything if the lines were leaking too bad. maybe its leaking as a vapor and just floating away under the car?

spark plugs and wires and coils are out of question, they have all been replaced in the last year according to previous owner and even showed me reciepts, plus thats everyones automatic answer to any question posted in this forum

HHHMMM....perhaps you just answered your own question. </font>[/QUOTE]how would a new fuel pump ruin my gas mileage? where does all the extra gas go??

50 miles = about 3 gallons usually, where does the other 5 i used go? it isnt leaking anywhere. if it is just coming out of the exhaust that cant be right because of the EGR n crap (doesnt the EGR recycle fuel not burned in the cylinder? if not the EGR then whatever the thing that does it is called...) i was thinking maybe the computer got damaged and the engine is just running itself w/o the comp telling it how much fuel to inject into the cylenders. or maybe its the injectors themselves, which i hope it isnt. well the gas mileage is alot better now. ALOT. i guess it was just the computer adjusting to the new fuel pump. took about a tank of gas before it adjusted.
