  • Engine Leaking Oil Somewhere?.....

I have a 99 Camaro. It's leaking somewhere in the front of my engine, It's covering my front crossmember and my steering rack. I'm assuming it's the timing cover. Has anyone had this problem also? Does anyone know where else it can be coming from?

rear main is the one that goes most often on our cars from what I understand - that's what I think I have. Not sure about any common leaks at the front of engine though? I assume the filter's on o.k.

yeah my filter is on fine. My whole front crossmember is covered with oil. I'm guessing it's coming from the timing cover but not sure.

Man that sounds like exactly wear mine is leaking from.... I look under the car and that bar that goes from wheel to wheel is covered in oil. I noticed it a few months ago but it was so small that I kinda forgot about it. Now it's so bad that I got kicked out of the drag strip tonight. Im gonna jack her up and check it out real good tomorrow. Ill post here with any imfo to help you out and I would appreciate it if you would do the same for me.

i havent seen anyone point about a leaking timing cover. the most common leaks would be the valve cover gasket and oil pan gasket. if the pan gasket is leaking in the front that would cause your problem. typically leaks from the valve covers run down the back of the engine (mostly to annoy you i imagine).

I would recomend cleaning the engine up real good, and carefully look for damaged or crack components. Put some sort of powder( Baby poweder) on the suspect area, drive it around and check to see where it is comming from.

After looking at the disassembled views of the engine, there are many oil system components right next to the timing cover.
                    ie
                    Oil Pump
                    Oil Pressure Relief Valve Spring
                    Oil Pressure Relief Valve
                    Oil Filter Adapter Gasket
                    Oil Filter Adapter
                    Oil Filter Adapter Bolt

Since you said it was a lot of oil, you might want to check these
