    ive read a couple threads on this, not sure what the verdict is. if youre sitting in traffic and your temp is pushing 210 degrees, does the fan turn on if you turn on the ac for a little while then turn the ac off?

    i know on my car if i turn my ac on my fan comes on, even if i just started my car. then turns off when i turn the ac off,if my car is not running at the normal temp when the fan turns on.

      If you have a dual fan setup, the drivers side fan should run constantly. While sitting in traffic if your car reaches over 210 degrees the passenger side fan will come on. If you don't think it is check them to makesure they are coming on correctly. If you turn the a/c on both fans will always come on. If you are in traffic and your car is pushing over 210 degrees and you are trying to cool it off, turning on the a/c won't really help. The engine is just working harder and will heat even more. Although if you turn on the heater it will help because it is releasing heat. This may not be a very comftorable thing to do. What I did was I got a 180 thermostat. Which doesn't mean the car still can't heat up to 210 degrees if it's really hot but it usually won't. A manual fan switch is a very nice mod to do with the 180 thermostat because you can keep both fans running without the a/c on in traffic to keep your car under 180 degrees. No more sweating because you think your car is heating over the normal operating temp.

        actually, that's wrong. the fans for the 3.8 have a low setting and a high setting. not a driver's side or a passenger and driver's side setting. they either will both come on low or they will both come on high or they will both not come on at all. they come on at speeds lower than 50 mph most of the time and rarely ever will be on over 50 mph unless your car is overheating. the high will come on a lot, regardless of if your engine temp reaches 210--i don't know why people keep saying that, but it is not true. the fans will come on randomly and sometimes they will stay on longer than other times. sometimes the high speed will kick on for 2 seconds and then turn off and then 4 seconds later the low speed is on. they're weird, and they are not regular. i have lights that light up when each speed is on, i know when they run and when they don't. as far as the AC thing goes, i also don't think that plays any part in it whatsoever. yes, your engine gets hotter when it is running; no, the heater does not cool down your engine temp enough to turn it on while your engine temp is hot. if the ac is on, the fans don't always stay on, my fans never stay on at speeds higher than 50mph. when you drive down the road at 70 mph you are getting a lot of wind that keeps the temp down and you don't even need a fan. that's how the fans work on the 3.8...or at least mine, and i'm sure most of them are going to be the same. but if you driver's side fan is working and vice versa, you should get that checked out cause that's not at all how the fans work.

          Yep, Only4U is correct for the most part. But the fans dont' kick on randomly. Our engine temp guage only gives us a very general reading from the PCM. If you have AutoTap or OBD II you'll notice the real engine temp is sometimes far from the reading on the guage. It can be 200 degrees and the guage won't read anywhere near the 210 mark. Just the fans being on for a sec or two might be enough to drop the temp 1 degree under where the PCM kicks on the fans.

          Turning the AC on for a sec will help you in traffic. Your fans will stay on Low (or High if your engine's hot enough) until you proceed to do 40+MPH. This would be helpful to people at the track while they're waiting also. I've noticed this for a while now but just haven't been motivated to post it.

            so, if im sitting there idling and the temp getting up there, i can click up to the ac for a second then back down to off, and the fan stays on til i reach 40 mph ?

              They will stay on for a minute or so after the AC has been turned off or till you rach 40 mph, which ever occurs first.

                how difficult is the manual switch thing to install. do you just leave it running all the time when its really hot out?

                  I recently installed the SLP Manual Fan switch...very easy install. I leave my fans on almost all of the time that I am NOT on the expressway.
