Alright I'm at a fork in the road. First of all I like my V6 but I just love the punch of a V8 (I used to have a 99 TA). So should I go through the hassel of a LT1 or LS1 swap (with the LS1 I'm mainly scared of computer compatibility problems)or a turbo with forged internals set up? Please note buying an SS or Z is not an option, the cars paid for and insurance is too high for the 8 (experiance talks here :D ). I'll also add that I don't have much knoledge of turbo's and tuning and all that, so I guess my other question is which is harder?

I can't even count how many times this has been discussed. There's probably even posts with the same title as this one. Do a search here and in Advanced Tech (even though this is not advanced), and you'll get a bunch of info from people that were in the same situation as you.Matt

Im in the same boat as you, if I could get a wrecked car with the parts i need i would do the swamp probally. Then i can sell what i don't use and sell the stuff from my car as well, therefore being alot cheaper. On the other hand I would enjoy having forced induction on the 3.8 as well. Forced induction on a 3.8 f-body is more rare though and people gaw at it a little bit more ya know?
Its really what you prefer.1999 Pontiac Trans Am M6 Far from stock.....

Just my opinion, but I think the turbo would be way cooler..... :DWe can save a lot of time if you just assume I know everything...

SXS Camaro -
http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/703383
or http://home.tampabay.rr.com/whitewrld/

Depends on your preference.
Turbo = more unique and less work
V8 = Better sound, more possible power, more work
My opinion, V8\'99 SSM Camaro V6 M5
(mod list on cardomain site; too long to list here)
http://www.cardomain.com/id/v6cam99

i dont know about the less work thing. turbos are alot of work and if you ask me, our cars are already touchy enough. i think if your mechanically inclined, which you need to be to do the turbo install properly, the swap would be easier in the long run.

would it be possible to do a turbo or supercharger on the 6, then down the road do a v8 swap and use that same turbo/supercharger on the v8?2000 Bright Red Camaro 3800 V6, A4, LSD, 3.42
Whisper lid, K&N, American Thunder Catback, Wings West GFX, Billet Grill

http://www.mfba.org
http://home.comcast.net/~thontor/camaro/

not too sure. i think you could but not everything would be usable. like only the turbo an only the supercharger and even then, im not sure that the turbo would be big enough nor would the supercharger.

the only way that you could reuse the turbo from a v6 on a v8 is if you are running like 22lbs. of boost on the v6 and then only running 8lbs. on the v8. v8's take a HUGE amount of air, and when i say air im not talking psi, im talking about cfm1987 Buick Grand National drivetrain in my 1993 Pontiac Firebird. as far as the swap from a turbo/supercharger from a 6-8,no i am pretty sure you cannot do this.
As for the 8 or turbo, i think the turbo would be cheaper, but i would go for the 8, but you need engine mounting hardware, new trany, and a good engine. the computer thing could be a prob though.
Go for the almighty 8!!! (i put one in my CJ5, and would do dragraces with mud tires) they put out ungodly power, and turbo's are finicky, plus, you don't have turbo lag with an 8!
