(Keep in mind I have just replaced my engine and transmission with another one with only 17k miles. This was the first time I have driven the car in 4 weeks or so.)
Heres what happened, I was driving the car just fine for about 20 minutes, I brought it up to 4k rpm in first takin off from a light and it hesitated bad, stuttered, and I let off and it seemed fine again. I tried again and it did the same thing only this time it died and the CHECK GAUGES light came on. I pulled over, and it started again, but this time only ran for like 30 seconds, died again only doing like 2k rpm and wouldn't start. The CHECK GAUGES light came on again when it died and the voltage seemed a little low (but never in the red) the whole time, around 12 when its usually at 14.
I got the car towed home and added 1 gallon of gas to it just in case, and it started, voltage gauge still a little low, about 12.5. I thought it was just the level sender making me think I had 1/2 tank when it was really empty, but then it died again after running for only 3 minutes. CHECK GAUGES light came on again. I took off the fuel and EVAP lines, checked for kinks or breaks, they were fine. I reinstalled them, tried to start it, and it started again. This time it idled for 2 minues or so and just died. I tried to restart it and it ran for about 15 seconds and died. Again, the CHECK GAUGES light came on both times. Now it just cranks and will not start.
What could possibly be going wrong here? I suspect the fuel system, but it would seem if the injectors were clogged, it wouldn't have restarted after the first time it died, or ran fine for the 20 or so minutes I had it going. The lines, metal and rubber, are new. That leaves the pump. I can hear it come on when I turn the key to ON, would it still do that even if it was bad?
I know for a fact this problem is NOT the alternator (replaced), battery(optima red top 3 months old), plugs (brand new), wires (brand new), or fuel filter (barely 1k miles since last change). Oh, and no SES light EVER came on.
