• How long do F-Bodies last?

How many miles before you should start worrying about getting a new car?

• #2
The 3.8 that comes in them is a very reliable motor and the rest of the drivetain is very good as well. It's been around for a while so any problems have been worked out. I would say that you don't have anything to worry about until well over 100,000 miles. Unless you get a lemon or beat the sh!t out of it all the time.

well the 3.8 is a very good engine, it will last you a long time. Mine has 80K and still runs like new. The only problem with some f-bods is the electrical stuff, such as the power windows, maybe CD player, or for firebirds the headlight motor. Just be careful with those things cause its expensive to fix them. I fixed my headlight motor with a free guide in LS1.com, the rest of the electrical problems at the dealer, I paid almost $250.

The 3.4L is also a strong engine. By the time the 3.4L came around the block had been around a long time and most of the bugs were worked out.

Mine currently has 137K miles on it with no problems.

almost 141K here... I bought it with 100K. I've never had engine problems other then the water pump went out but that was to be expected. this thing runs like you wouldn't believe.... no burning oil, 16-17mpg in the city and 32+ on the highway.

But I did have to replace the passenger window motor. I've also replaced the inner and outer tie-rod ends but sounds like I'm special there because I don't know anyone else who's had to...

What did you use to get the bracket off the shaft? Mine won't budge. Used WD40, screwdriver, nothing.

I've got 135k on my 3.4L and I have had very few problems. Tune-ups, water pump and outer tie rod ends and thats about it. IT runs like its brand new. Doesn't burn oil till it reaches about 3500 miles after change (I use fully synthetic). I just take care of it and it will run forever (wishful thinking)

well my brother and me both used a screwdriver to push the bracket out, it is really hard to do since it took two of us to push out the thing, and my brother is a big man, so u know what i mean. Good luck fixing it.

If you take care of your fbody, it will last you forever. An extensive tune up and rebuild every 150K might be a good idea. Aside from wrecking it, I don't see why it wouldn't last a lifetime.

When I got my car in January with barely 10,000 miles on it I was thinking I would keep the miles down and just drive it around town and to work and take the Astro to school and whenever I could, well, that lasted a week, I love driving this car, I now have almost 16,000 miles on it and I could care less about miles, cars like this were ment to be driven

i bet if you take really good care of the motor/drivetrain it would go well over 200k miles, one of my friends had a 96 firebird that had 160k from Kentucky, he drove it all the way down here to Texas(1800 miles) and didnt have any trouble!!
