actually the drivetrain on these cars suck really bad.. the engine is the only good thing

I used to have a '94 Bonneville (has series I 3800) that had 140,000 miles on it before we had to do anything to the motor. so i know that from experience. my Firebird only has 70k on it, so its good for a while.

I wonder how many of the cars in the original 2003 post are still on the road.

I wonder if this thread will last longer than my car..... :)

96 RS bought last year w/ 100k mi. Engine had been replaced by previous owner for unknown reason, had to replace 1 ft wheel bearing- (of course it includes ABS $peed $ensor) , stupid 2 piece driveshaft went out- CV joint failure- replaced w/ one piece 3" shaft vs. stock 2 3/4.
Have done complete rad flush, brakes, and all fliuds changed.

Car has run great w/ no other major probles now for about 6k mi....

I have 174.5K on my 93 3.4 and it still runs like a dream. No major problems yet. I just redid the plugs and wires. (It was estimated that the plugs that were in before I changed them were in for near 100k, or somewhere relatively near it.) All that I've had go wrong is problems with the window motor (passenger), leaking head gasket (It's what I was told. uber small leak. I have to add a quart of oil about every1.5 - 2 months.), leaking water pump hose, blown compressor clutch, ABS sensor. I think my tie rod ends need replacing. That's about all I can remember for now. The car still runs great!

110k here and my car runs like a beauty i absolutely love my fbody, and i will buy a V8 fbody next. the 3800 is a great all around engine, you can leave alone, and its plenty peppy, or you can mod it to where it will haul ***, theres a reason it was the number one engine in the country at its peak

Re: How long do F-Bodies last?

Just turned 60000 on my 96RS. The only real problems I've had with my RS in 11 years are: the ac needs to be charged, loose wire on the stero, broken ebrake cable, and a bearing is going in the rearend. Most everything I replaced was in the name of performance, not because anything broke. I recently replaced the water pump and thermastat when i flushed my cooling system. Neither were bad but I replaced them since I already drained the cooling system. The water pump was $35.

God knows how many miles are on my 69 camaro, but almost every part of that car has been rebuilt. Its almost 40 years old so I can't complain.

Re: How long do F-Bodies last?

Everyone shares info on the drivetrain, and that is usually good, since any 3800II well maintained should easily exceed 200k miles.

                          However, chassis and bodywork?
A chronically troubled front suspension can be as big a moneyhole as a tranny.
How do F-body chassis/bodies hold up? Besides the usual side window motors, fogged headlites, etc.?
And stick guys, how bout clutches?
                          Thanks
