How long do F-Bodies last?

i bought my 94 firebird 3.4 with a blown headgasket, fixing that was the only major repair i had done, very soon i'm going to be celebrating the 175,000 mark and it still runs awsome [img]graemlins/burnout.gif[/img]

I bought my car with 45,000 miles on it. It was good for about a week. then the transmision went out. Got that fixed. Then not even two weeks after that the rear end went to sh!t. All this pissed me off. Since then I have not had any problems and I have put nearly 10,000 miles on it. I Love my car. 97 Camaro 30th Anniversiry Edition.

I know somebody that has something like 235,000 km on his 97(?), which is a lot of miles. Hasn't had anything but regular maintainence work I think.

hahaha, this is funny as ****. I never bring up old topics cause of the fact that people will get mad, this is the first time I see somoene noticed a fellow member doing this.
well I read somewhere that the 3.8 engines shoudl last till around 200K, just buy a new 3.8 engine when it dies, thats what I am planning on doing.
Or just buy an LT1 engine and do a swap.

I am at 97K so I know I have a while till my engine dies.

the way most of us drive, were probably a lot more likely to hit something and kill the car, than to have to worry about a well maintained engine crapping out.

my tranny went toast around 100k. a friends tranny is on the way out, too.

i think the tranny is the weakpoint in the car.

how often did you change your tranny fluid. i think the tranny might be the weak point cause its also a neglected point.

i had it changed like every 30k or so. which means, roughly twice for me.

Saw a post on LS1.com for a 1998 F-body with 300,000 miles on it and still running fine! [img]graemlins/omg.gif[/img] [img]graemlins/thumbsup.gif[/img]

i heard that in order for your tranny to work fine there are two fluids u have to change, like the auto fluid, and then the tranny fluid.
This is waht this guy told me today at work, just making sure he is accurate, cause I only thought there was once fluid not two in automatic trannys.

it can last for ever i just lost my 84 camaro 2,8 but modified and i had a hi miler file in detroit with chevy 850,000 plus documented miles and had never had the heads removed when the car was involved in an accident it was completely fixable but the state required it removal so i transfered everything but the engine over to a 89 rs traded the engine to my mechanic for labor who is still useing it in another car

My Camaro just celebrated 180 grand, and still is running strong. It's a 1996.

Though I will bring attention to those who posted about transmission problems; my tranny bumps relatively roughly into second gear.

my 97 camaro is pushing 201,000 and going strong. never had any major work done on it but i'm saving for a complete rebuild for christmas :)

Anyway, they will last for a VERY long time if you take care of them properly.
