  • Pass II Key- anyone else have key problems

So I have the Pass II key, and I have been having problems starting the car every now and then. The security light comes on and I have to wait a few minutes before I can try it again. The chip in the key looks a little worn, but the dealership tested it and they say the key is fine. It is going to cost me $37.50 just for a new key or $80.00 to diagnosis it and then whatever repairs and parts are needed after that. I don't know wether to buy a new key and risk losing $37.50 or just have them do the diagnosis. Has any one else had a simialar problem?

if you do a search you'll find MANY people have ahd this problem. You can bipass the feature very easily, or there is also a "fix" available that retains the feature.

Try using an eraser to clean the chip on the key. If you still have problems it may be your ignition.

What do you mean that there is a "fix" available.

Do a search for it. Some have said that it is just the flimsy wire that GM used under the dash, and that it is the problem. They say rewiring something with a better wire, will do it. Seriously, I have searched this before, and found page after page.

I will never have that problem again. I just went around it. And yes you still need a key to start the car, just in case any would be thiefs are out there.
