  • "Inspection"????

Hey, can someone tell me if 77.50 is a reasonable price to get your car, "inspected" by a "friendly" gas station ;)

Inspection stickers are 14 bucks here. 77 seems a bit steep for anywhere.

Here in PA, inspection runs $80-per friggin year!

I thought it was free in Jersey...? I took my x-girlfriends car over to a NJ inspection station back in 1999 and I don't remember being charged.

Well, the shop I work at doesnt do inspections but the place up the street where we send cars for inspections runs about 70 bucks, theyre usually quick and arent as strict as the DMV, if you cant afford to have the problem fixed, they understand and theyll let you go. Look around if you not so sure. There'got to be more than one place to go!

I remeber when I lived in Ft Lauderdale as a kid, there was no inspection on cars. I know that's changed though.

Be happy you don't live in Japan. They have extremely rigorous inspections about every two years. The test covers all the way down to things like wheel alignment. The total cost is hundreds of dollars or more, because the inspections are so strict. Basically any noticeable wear is a possible reject.

By the time a car is ten years old, the required repairs will usually exceed the value of the car and it is sold (for peanuts) to someone who will export it. Any ten year old car, even something like a Lexus, has about zero value in Japan.
