  • Warranty Question? *EDIT Answer from CARB inside

After searching I was unable to find a true answer to this question.

When It come to emmisions, what is the GM warranty, and what does it include?

I am suspecting that the O2s are bad and my Cat is bad. Because about a 3 months ago I got a code that said bad O2, then the code when away, So I forgot about it, now I hear rattleing and I just wanna get this done for free. What is the warranty say?

For search purposes, here is the link to the California Air Resource Board (CARB) Law on warranty.

I didn't look much, but I found this.

<blockquote>quote:</font><hr> For many vehicles, the OE catalytic converter is the only choice. Thus, if a new converter is needed, it's going to be rather spendy. But remember, the current federal emissions warranty covers the original converter and several other key emissions components for five years or 80,000 miles. Efforts are underway to increase this mandated warranty to the life of the vehicle, but the technology isn't quite there yet. <hr></blockquote>

You might already have them, but these are from the 2002 Firebird warranty guide:

        http://webpages.charter.net/camarov6/warranty2.JPG

Edit: I noticed that it says to check the list of covered components and parts that are covered under the emissions warranty will have asterisks next to the part. Oxygen sensors don't have an asterisk, so I guess they're part of the 36 month/36K mile warranty.

I gotta find that booklet. Hmmm, that strange, I though O2 sensors where part of the emmisions system.

Its pretty sad, when you have to prepare a case to convice the Service Manager, that you are under warranty.
