  • Fuel Gauge Fuse?

    My fuel gauge is crazy and out of control. I was wondering if its just a fuse or something simple that can be fixed. I dont like to see my tank 3/4 full when i drive 30 miles.

The only fuse I think there is, I think is called "cluster" in your fuse panel, and I beleive it protects the whole dash. Mine acts funny also. Mine stays at full for a 1/2 tank, and the last half tank, it works its way down to zero. Go figure. :(

        there is no fuse for teh gage. There is one that suplys power to the cluster but that has no effect other then it would simply stop working. The sending unit in the tank has a resistnce bored that will send a ground signal which gives you your fuel level reading. Most issues are a fault in the sending unit. This can be somewhat tested. if you would like to know how lemme know. but still. define "crazy"

          Ok
          Crazy: 1.after filling up, 30 miles puts it to 3/4 tank
          2. turning can move the needle on the gauge from full to 1/2 or less.
          3. when its at 1/2 full, the exact amount of gas in the tank is around 1-2 gallons.
          4. even when theres 1-2 gallons in it, no gas light or anything goes on.

            My 94 did that, and so does my 97. It's the sending unit. Not gonna hurt anything, but annoying as **** if you ask me.

              My car does it. Ive worked it out though:

              When im full, the gauge is about 1/2" past 'F'

              When i have a half a tank, the gauge is on the 'F' line

              When i have 1/4 tank, im at the 1/2 Full line

              when my car has vapors left, the gauge is resting right above the line.

              When the gauge is even with the line, my car dies.

                Yeah, I have that same problem, it sucks! So it is the sending unit in the tank huh? ANyone know the approximate cost to repair so I do not get ripped off!

                    I'm sorry, but the shape of the tank has nothing to do with this problem. Mine worked fine for 2 of the years that I owned it.

                    Then one hot sunny day about 6 months ago I drove up to a ski resort and back down. That morning the gauge was working fine, that evening everything went to ****.

                    I've noticed that if the car is cool or left running that the gauge will go back to normal, but while driving or if it's been left out in the sun it's reading about 1/4 tank too high.
