• New car: Black box mod?

i have been looking these things up on ebay, they range from $5-$50 and are all basically the same. they have something to do with the resistor. you supposedly get 10-20 more horse, but i'm not exactly sure what they do, or IF ITS SAFE FOR MY CAR , which is a beutifull metalic green 94 3.4! im not sure what you mean by the black box mod but i can without a doubt tell you that the 10-20 HP gains is

Its prolly the dumb IAT sensor 'mod', where you put the resistor in, it thinks its getting colder air and advances the timing a bit, and you supposedly get horsepower out of it.

I thought this mod was only availible for the 3.8 engines. Not sure though. Seems like an ok idea, but I dunno.

Probably either the IAT or TPS mod. either way they are crap. don't even bother. testing done with the IAT mod showed a 1 HP gain in some cases and loss in others. not to mention that it's never a good idea to mess with timing advance. It;s controled by temp for a reason. if your combustion chamber temps are high and it;s taking away timing to prevent detonation why would you want to add more? Best advise. Stay away

i know it does have something to do with the resistor, and it said it would work on all 90-2002 V6 camaro's. anyway, i don't think i'll put it on. thanks guys.

You can get the resistor to do the same thing at radio shack for .10cents
