Exactly how far down can the gas guage go down in a 2002 firebird? I have it so the top of the needle is at the bottom of the E line, so its below E.. how much more you think I got ;) ?

Not much so hopefully you'll have enough to pay for a new fuel pump! :D
Do the newer V6s fuel pumps burn up like the ones on the Ls1s if you run out of fuel? I know the ones in the older V6s dont since I have personally run out of gas twice and havent needed to replace my pump. <blockquote>quote:</font><hr> Check Guages light come on <hr></blockquote> Whats that? I heard of it but personally never seen it. :D I rarely let my tank get below half so Ive never had the Check Gauges light come on.

I personally wouldn't let the gas go to far past a quarter tank since it will begin to suck up all the junk that is left in the bottom of the tank and begin to clog your fuel filter.1994 Camaro<br />3.4L V6 Automatic<br />K&N FIPK&Gold Oil Filter,Ravin Performance Exhaustw/Dynomax MandrelBent3\"I-Pipe&S Pipe&Catco 3\" HiFlow Cat.,ASP Crank and High AMP Alternator,U.D. Just a quick correction to your statement and its not to be a smart *** or anything. But I think that the different year camaro/firebirds have different size gas tanks. I'm not positive but I'm pretty sure on this. Maybe someone check this out. I think the 93-97 has a 15 or 15.5 gallon tank and the later cars 16.8 or 17 gallon tank. Once again I'm not positive and if anybody know its would be much appreciated. But no matter what I would go past the quarter so that it wouldn't suck up all the junk thats in the tank. I've had to replace two fuel filters because of it and I've run various cleaners to try and keep the junk in the tank to a minimum. Any info would be appreciated on the size of the tanks though.1994 Camaro<br />3.4L V6 Automatic<br />K&N FIPK&Gold Oil Filter,Ravin Performance Exhaustw/Dynomax MandrelBent3\"I-Pipe&S Pipe&Catco 3\" HiFlow Cat.,ASP Crank and High AMP Alternator,U.D. I got 350 miles out of a tank once... I rarely put in more than 12 or 13 gallons though. What kinda stuff gets in the bottom of the gas tank (to clog the filter)? I might have to start filling up more often.www.RedLineVSix.com || 1996 Camaro, 15.159@92.5mph

I had a dealer burn up a pump on a TA test drive. He drove it off the lot and little ways down the road it chugged and died. We pushed it into a parking lot. He was so embarassed, and knew nothing about these cars, so he proceeded to repeatedly crank the motor for oh...about 10min, trying to start it. I knew the damage he was doing but the idiot deserved the reaming he was gonna get back at the lot Finally he gave up and walked back to get a vehicle to pick me up and came back with a servie tech and a gas can. Filled it up and turned the key. Hmmmm, no start and no buzz from the rear either. I am surprised he didn't start a fire with as much as he cranked it when dry. The tech and I had a good laugh :D
So, to lamely try and tie my story in with your question, the LS1 pumps do not like to run low. But, I have accidentally run my 3.4L out of gas, and the pump is still working fine 30K miles later. If my gauge gets down to E for any amount of time, I can put atleast 15gal into the 15.5gal tank. If I fill up just as it is dropping into E i can put in about 14gal. Based on mileage, I estimate that 3/4 on the gauge is about 1/2 a tank. The bottom 1/3 of the gauge tends to disappear in about 50-70miles. This may differ from car to car like the coolant gauge though.

Shape of the tank is kinda like this:
\__/
so when your guage reads 1/2 you really don't have the same amount above half-full as below half-empty. I usally have about 50 mi or so left at 1/2 empty and when I fill it up it reads way over Full.

Skull not being a smartass back but yes the newer ones like mine (1999) and the guy who posed the question (2002) are 16.8 gallons. Older camaros have a smaller tank and I am unaware of their exact size. Unlike other people I only post facts that I know are true. I don't like to quote inaccurate values.

OK! I filled up today, it was barely below emtpy.. it was 14.286 gallons.. that's at the barely bottom of E.. so if we can carry 18, then we can go a good ways under E right? (it cost me 26.27 to fill that biatch up with 92)2002 Silver Metallic A4 Firebird - All Options

Nobody holds more than 16.8, and the most you can suck out of that is probably 14-15 of the 16.8!
Running it low and going into a corner can starve the car of fuel, so can hard braking, so be sure you brake and corner on at least a half a tank guys...2002 5-spd NBM Camaro

OK, this is straight out of the back of my owner's manual so if you have any beef take it up with GM.
It says that the fuel tank capacity is 15.5 gallons (58.7 L) for my 1998 v6. So maybe they switched it in 99?- JT3<br />1998 Red V6 Camaro Y87 Y3F - J.E.T.
