Lately my car has been overheating. If I'm driving the temp guage skyrockets all the way up and my check guages light comes on. Then it goes back to normal.

I drove around in it for a few weeks cause I had no time with work and what not to go to the dealership. During that time it was always happening. I didn't really care. Anyways I was in a drive thru the other day, temp skyrockets again, this time the car starts hesistating, I give it gas and am barely moving. I turn the car off and let it cool down. Car is at regular temp again, it starts up fine and I'm on my way. My SES light is on as well. That came on way before the temp started to skyrocket.

I'm thinking two things, either thermostat or coolant flush. Anyone else expeirience this??

    Thanks

    Are your fans kicking on?

How about when you turn on the a/c?

If no, did a fuse blow?

Does it stay cool when cruising on the interstate?

      Are your fans kicking on?

      - Yes

How about when you turn on the a/c?

      - Haven't tried that, I was told by a buddy to crank the heat on full once you see it overheat, so I've been doing that.

If no, did a fuse blow?

      - Haven't tried looking at that

Does it stay cool when cruising on the interstate?

      - Yes it does stay cool, happens more when I'm stopped. But on odd occassion sometimes when Im driving say like 60km/h, like 35mph

Better start caring. Overheating is one of the worst enemies to the engine, next to running it without oil. If you overheat it good enough, it will seize, or have other serious problems if it doesn't seize. The stuttering you experienced is fuel igniting (premature ignition), because cylinders get incredibly hot. Xtremely bad for the engine too.

First thing to check is your coolant level, next is thermostat.
