  • ran out of gas

When I bought my 95 Firebird 2 years ago I ran out of gas 2 blocks from the dealer. The needle was not even at the E yet!! It still does this today. It will stay at full for 100 miles then just suck dry after that. Is there something wrong?? THANX

Shape of the tank is kinda like this:
    \__/
so when your guage reads 1/2 you really don't have the same amount above half-full as below half-empty. I usally have about 50 mi or so left at 1/2 empty and when I fill it up it reads way over Full.

Thanx, now that makes sense. Do all the Firebirds have this problem? And another thing, my fuel light doesn't come on when my gas is running low. Do you know why?

When you first turn your ignition to on, what does the bulb check tell you?

I have the same problem on my camaro. My gauge reads way above full, then I run out right above the E. Does anyone know if theres a way to fix this?

mine does the same thing, but i dont think 93 to 96 camaros and firebirds have a low fuel light. Does anyone know if one could be added?

i thought gauges compensate for the shape of the tank

my cobra has a 15.7 gallon tank and i always fill up between E and 1/4 and its always around 12 gallons that i put in to get it to be full

go the same problem, at half full feels like i have plenty of gass left but runs out real quick

and my CHECK GUAGE light never goes on.

I have the same problem with my gas guage, when it was 1/4 full I only had about a gallon left and then when i fill up it's way over full..

                        Well lets ponder this..??

Now after installing my slp it does this at 1/2 a tank. So I think when i reset my pmc at 1/2 a tank it messed the reading up..

So... when my tanks bottoms out i will reset the pcm again and let you guys know if it works, or if anyone else wants to try this first and let us know.. that would be great.....

Mine does the same thing. It has a 15 gallon tank and it takes 7.5 gallons to go from 3/4 to full.

i think all 93 to 96 have this problem. i had to learn the hard way and walked a mile to a gas station in freezing weather with only a couple bucks. but this wierd redneck guy gave me a ride in the back of his truck back to my car. he had all kinds of tools in his trucks, and trash bags, and very odd looking eggs in a box. that guy was wierd, but nice, and a bit scarey
