Its the gears. Either flip them or buy metal gears.

flip them up and pull out the fuses for the headlights. this way, you can leave them up and not have to worry about them shutting on you everytime you shut off the car. then, replacce the gear.

go to the web site HokieBird posted. Brent has many guides and great info on our cars. One of the guides is for the headlight 'gear flip' as well as gear replacement. check it out.

Yep, plastic gear gone bad. Get the brass gears on ^^^^that site. VERY easy fix. Even a how to video on that site. Had my left one go out a few months ago, scare the crap outtya with that noise. Took 20 mins to fix, and the gears he sends are really high quality.

i think also the question here is also what no one has answered... Why is the headlights fliping up and then down again when the keyless entry is pushed... Ive never experienced that problem before but i would probably venture to say that the headlight switch is going bad. or a short somewhere. On my bird, when the keyless entry is press, it flashes the parking lights and sounds the horn, but if i have my fog lights in the on position, those flash also. sounds to me like the like pulse from the security system pulses the swtich in the headlights for the running lights... if a switch is bad or going bad, i would have to think that there is a short in the switch. Just a thought.

The headlights flipping up like that with bad gears is common. I have seen it before and the gear swap fixed it. If by some freak chance the gears don't fix it just post up again and we can work through it.
