  • Annoying read hatch rattle/chrip!!! HELP!!

Do any of you other 4th gen guys have problems with a high mileage car and it's hatch making all kinds of rattling and chirping noises? if so, please enlighten me on how to fix it. if not, then... well... i guess i'll just turn the stereo up louder. of course, that's probably what caused it in the first place. thanks,
    bill

Check your defroter connection... that can sometimes come loose and rattle, I just stuffeda piece of electrical tape in there and it didnt rattle anymore. Not too sure if this is your problem, but check...

check the hold down for your spare tire. make sure it is snugg and didn't loosen up. mine was making a chirping noise ( sounded like a baby bird in my car) and my spare tire came loose up.
if that is not what is causing the rattle or chirping try adjusting your hacth to close tighter. my hatch rattles but it is because of my stereo ,the speaker box is up agaist the glass not letting it close snuggly.(and not to mention my taillights and every thing else in the back end rattles :D )

u loosen the bolts on the latch assembly and push it down ward then snug up the bolts. pushing it down with cause the gate to latch closed tighter

open your hatch and look right in the center of the car (the area where you would insert key to open hatch). u can see the top of the latch through the plastic panel. pull the back plastic panel off to uncover the whole latch and the bolts. also the side panels would have to be removed to get the back one out all the way.

The hydraulic lifts (hatch supports) tend to squeak with age also. Get a small of white lithium grease and spread a little where the shaft goes into the cylinder. This may help a little.

My hatch rattles because the two little rubber stops on each end inside of the hatch are shot! They are two little screw in pieces (on the hatch's underside right where the tailights are)that keep the hatch from bouncing up-n-down when you hit bumps. Mine are bigtime beat, and I'm just too lazy to find new replacements.

I'm with the guys that said check the spare tire and jack - that can cause a very annoying high pitched squeaking.
I solemnly swear I am up to no good.
