Just wanted to throw this issue at you 3.8 guru's to see what you guys would recommend doing.
Flashing service engine light, slight ticking noise coming from the alternator area, and real bad acceleration and entire car shacks during acceleration from a dead stop. This just started today after running up to McDonald's for some gut bomb burgers with almost a completely empty tank(ya I know but I was being lazy). One last thing there is a slight burning smell coming from the engine compartment similar to burning plastic/rubber.

Sounds like the plug wires got burnt.

Well this is kinda of weird to say the least I went out and check the wires to check if there were any visible signs of them being melted or burnt and the passenger side rear plug was totally disconnected from the plug itself. I went ahead and reconnected it. It took care of the flashing service engine light but it is still there nice and bright and non flashing. There were no visible signs of melting or burn marks on the cables themselves. I'm planning on resetting the computer tomorrow morning and see if that eliminates the ses light if not up to autozone to have them pull the code.

That would do it. I'm sure unplugging for 15 min will take care of your problem.
