When I first bought my car it did the same thing (a loud high pitched whistle that sounded like a supercharger) and it turned out that I was missing a clip on my air box. This caused the engine to suck some air through the crack made by not having the clip and made the whistle. So I'd say check that (it should be obvious and cheep to fix if that's it). Hope this helps.

i have this problem to it is at the point were as when i stomp the gas it sounds like it is super charged and every one will look at me trying to figure out what the noise is.if it really bothers u take a really long srew driver and while the engine is running put the screw driver on diffrent items like altenator, power stering pump,Ac pump ect and put your ear to the handle. The sound will travel and and u will hear what item is making the whining noise. i did mine that way and my power stearing pump is making the whining noise on my car. but it is not broke yet so no need for me to fix it yet. plus i think it funny when everone gauks and start rumour around town :D . might be one of the reasons no whants to race me even though could win. but they all really think i have a s/c in my car when i don't

i did do the free ram air mod, but i dont know if this would make that noise! but i just went to lunch and came back and when i got off the highway it stopped and it went back to just a tiny noise, just when i first brought it. ill try the screw driver thingy, but all of my clips are on the air lid.

                  any one else?

Could be your alternator. if a bearing goes out, it will cause it to whine. Just replaced mine because of that...

you can get a new bearing for a few bucks if thats the problem. I had the same sound I think and it turned out to be a bad bearing on a pulley. Replaced bearing and sound was gone.

I replaced the whole alternator, as it had other issues as well. it was about $120. You can, as was stated earlier, get a rebuild kit, or have it rebuilt for considerably less...
