I recently had a an idler pulley go out while rolling around 85 on the highway. It threw the belt, and after removing it, I found the bearing inside was completely locked up. I have spoken to several fellow owners and none have ever heard of having probelms with idler pulleys. Anyone have a similar experience??

Had another (local) dealer also replace the identical PLASTIC AC idler pulley. The factory replacement was METAL. I have 130,000+ miles.Robert - owner www.FirebirdV6.com/CamaroV6.com

We used to have people that would come into Autozone with the same problem. Not necessarily with the 3.8L V6 F-body, but with other cars. It happens. You can replace the bearing only, but for the time involved, it's easier just to replace the whole pulley.- Josh
If you have any questions or need installation pics/help, e-mail me: Viper98885@aol.com
\'93 Camaro Hardtop
\'01 Lincoln LS8 Sport
\'00 Yamaha YZF-R6
Full Throttle Performance

Same exact thing happened to me awhile back, but luckily I was just down the road from my house. Pulley seized, belt disintegrated along with the pulley.
Easy fix though, I had it good to go a few hours later.Black 1996 3.8L Firebird A4
--------------------------
Custom CAI, Flowmaster Dual Exhaust, 160 Deg Thermo, BMR ShockTower Brace
JVC mp3 HU, two 12\" Infinity Kappa Perfects, Infinity 6.5\" components, JBL 600.1 & 80.4 amps
Pics

I had this occur to me 2 weeks ago,

It was actually my fault I overtightened the pulley to a point where it couldn't move. The belt keep turning till the pulley and tensioner eventually gave way and broke off (sucks) and the car overheated. Fix time was less than an 30 minutes but finding the parts took me a little more time.
