Should be a switch on the brake itself. Basically it connects to earth when you apply the brake. I'd look there first.

Switch- Located under the console, right next to the e-brake cable. Most likely, it's a blown bulb though.
Bulb- Remove the dashboard to access the bulbs. A little bit of a project, but nothing that the average person can't handle. Invest in a hayne's or chilton's manual for the breakdown.

As a side note; If I tear the dash apart for a single bulb, I replace all of them regardless if they work or not. I do the same with tailight bulbs too.

^ ditto, if you're going to replace one just replace them all or you'll find yourself pulling it out a few times a year probably.....i believe they will probably be 194 sized bulbs but im not 100% sure they are very inexpensive, probably $1.00 for 2 bulbs, if they have the long life bulbs, get them even if they are more expensive

sorry guys. a Cluster bulb is no where near a 194. Autozone can't sualy even get them. you will probably have to get it from the dealer. Since you have a selection called "bulb test" which is when you turn the key on that is when all your lights should come on. If one doesn't then 9 times out of 10 it;s the bulb. The bulb not coming on during bulb test has nothing to do with the E brake switch or the low fluid switch. It;s internal. You can easily pop out the clutster in a fe minets and replace the bulb. No sence replacing others that are not broke.

Thats the thing tho. when i put the key in the ON position the BRAKES ligt lights up. but then it goes away after the initial test. After that when the car is on and i pull my Ebrakes on the light BRAKE light stays off.

Its not that great of a deal but just annoying.

ah, ok I got you now.

It;s a simple test. get at the switch with a meter or test light. should have ground at the switch and then with the switch triggered you should have ground going out the light blue wire. if you don't it;s a switch problem. if you do then the next step is the daytime running lights module if you have one.

Great ! So i am assuming i am gonna have to take out the center console ... i just might run the manual fan switch at the same time and drill in the hoe somewhere in there ... other wise is "right under the center vents" a good place to "run cable on top the head unit and mount the switch on the removablecover thingy" a good idea. ?

                        i assume u own a 2000 camaro??

i know on early consoles the PRND plate comes off without having to remove the entire console remove gear knob first by removing a u shape pin.

                        hope that helps

...and on the later consoles, the panel incuding the PRNDL plate is a spearate piece from the rest of the console.

By the way, all those who have said it's a blown bulb, I would agree apart from the fact that Camaro2K states in his original post that the light comes on when first starting the car.

I've tried to tke off that stupid shifter knob before so many times (just to replace it) but it just will not coe off. i keep hearing about this U pin. Where the heck is it.. it seems like you would need to just twist it off but damn. is this pin way below the kob, towards driver, ont he other side towards the radio or what ?

O and guess what.. it was on today during lunch when i first started and then when i pulled the ebreaks up after i came back from lucnh and no light again...

I have a 96 firebird. My light stopped coming on when I pulled it up, there is a copper connector that grounds out the light when you pull up the brake. Mine just had some dirt and grime built up on it. Once I pulled off the console and cleaned it, it worked fine
