ACtually both are...
If I were you I woudl consider a v8 swap they are cheaper in 3rd gens...
not sure how the motor mounts are on a 3800 series II and a GN 3.8L but there are turbo trans ams(BUick Grand national motor in it) from factory so they might fit in.
As for the 4.3L I believe they the Monte Carlos came with them, might be able to do something with what they had to get it working in your Camaro.
But eaisest swap is a 3.4L block, though it doesn't yield the greatest gains.
V8 might be the 2nd easiest since its been done the most.

The Vortec 4300 (or 4.3L V6) is found in the Jimmy/Sonoma/Express and Blazer/S10/Astro. Also in base-model full size pickups too. It's not in the Monte Carlo.\'97 Camaro: GN Turbo w/intercooler, 3.42s w/ Auburn HD posi, Bulletproof 4L60E-HD, stage II shift kit, Vette servo, MSD Ign, K&N, Ported TB/MAF, 3\" FlowMaster, 160* thermo, HPTuners v1.6
