  • car gets hot while idle..

ok.. got a 94' 3.4 and i noticed that say im in a traffic jam or something my car slooowly but surely starts to get hotter and hotter and hotter.. until my fan finally kicks in after my guage redlines.. then it brings it back tonormal.. is it normal for this to happen? it dosent do it while im driving.. (the air cools it im sure) just when im idling for a few mins.. should i re-check my antifreeze or is this normal while its idling?? i have a 5-speed if that helps

on the whole, this is farely normal. as long as the temp is coming back down once the fans come on. your radiator has to have air flowing over it in order to dissipate teh heat from the engine. without that, it won't work very well. what you should do is get a manual fan switch installed. you can get one from slp or get the parts and do it yourself. there are plenty of sites online that can tell you how to do it, just do a search here and you should find everything you need.

This is one of those things that happens to everyone in their life. You start worrying about your temerature your car is running at. I replaced my waterpump, put a manual fan switch in, put a new thermostat in, changed my coolant several times. Bottom line, there's no where for the heat to go when your sitting in traffic, which is why it's going to get hotter. Of course everyone knows when you drive the heat drops down. I don't think theres nothing anyone can really do about it, it's always going to get hotter, i would put your money else where and don't worry about it.

Is your coolant leaking anywhere? I had to change all my hoses recently. Have you changed yours yet?

But yeah, in traffic, it does get higher. I never got near redline though, until my hose started leaking. I notice that running the A/C keeps my temp around 180. ..
