  • Knocking noise....

There is a knocking noise coming from the engine. It seems to occur when the engine is cool or has been sitting for a while. After a while it goes away. It also makes the noise when starting and when I turn it off. I have no clue what may be causing it. I have a 94 Camaro V6 with 114,000. Completely stock. Wires, plugs, coils, put 10-30 in and O2 sensors changed a while ago. Thanks in advance.

I would take it into a mechanic and have them do a compression test to see which piston is knocking.

I've also read that many fbody owners have complained that their engines would knock when cold, and as soon as they warm up it would go away. GM said it was a normal occurence and no one should worry.

I'd still get it checked out to see. Does the knock get louder when your rev? if the engine is going it WILL get louder over time. Just monitor it and see whats going on.

    Good luck.

I think your thinking of the LS1 piston slap problem. As far as I know, our cars don't have that problem.

mine started knocking when it was cold at about 78000 miles. Threw a bottle of seafoam in the oil and has run like a charm ever since.

In the service manual it lists engine knocks on initial start-up but only lasts a few seconds- one of the causes of it is Improper oil viscosity. You changed your oil to 10W-30, doesn't gm recommend 5W-30? Other causes are listed as Hydraulic lifter bleed down, Excessive crankshaft end clearance, amd excessive front main bearing clearance. Hope this helps.
