• LOUD Squeaking from belts....won't go away!!

****ing bull****!!! I'm never going to clean my ****ing engine bay ever ****ing again!!!

I used Engine Brite degreaser, cleaned my engine bay nicely....and now my serpentine belt squeaks sooooo ****ing loudly!!!!!! I can't ****ing believe this!!! This belt was quiet as can be for the entire time I've owned my car! And now, this belt is squeaking soo loud at all RPMs

And yeah, I used belt dressing. That stops the problem during idle, but as soon as I rev...BAM!!! Back to super squeaking, and it squeaks at idle too. My brother and I just keep spraying it on, but it won't go away!!!

I sound like I drive a complete POS ****bomb car! How do I get this belt to shut the **** up??? Even WITH the belt dressing, it keeps squeaking!

I am never degreasing my engine bay ever again!

I have found out that on LT1s, sometimes the belt tensioner becomes worn out and makes a loud squeaking. The thing is this happened after I degreased my engine.
1. spray degreaser
2. follow instructions
3. rinse
4. start engine up and let it idle to warm up, and burn off the crap (no sound)
5. shut engine off, help brother with brakes on his car
6. start car up later on...EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
:( :(

Actually, use soap. My AC belt in my truck was new and squealed. I hit it with bar soap and the noise went away.

my dads suburban had the same problem, except he didn't clean his engine.his altenator locked up, take your altenator to auto-zone and the will test it for free.

Let me know if this was any help

1) Follow bowtie's advice and check for bearing problems. Take the belt off and try turning the accessories and tensioner by hand.

2) Clean the belt and pulleys. get all the gook and old dressing off. Wash the belt with dish soap or replace it, and try spraying down the pulleys with a cleaner like berryman b-12 to make sure all the grease and stuff is off.

Belt dressing is usually a crutch for dirty pulleys or poor tension. Solve the problem, and you don't need to gum up your works with dressing.

Thanks man.

I went to NAPA today and asked for their advice (I was buying some Seafoam ), the guy said to "use some brake cleaner on the belt, that will get the dirt and grease off and will dry quickly". So I did....and it still squeaks.

Then, onto what zlexiss said, I thought, "It might be a pulley itself". So I listened closely, and sprayed my power steering pully down with WD-40. The squeaking stops! Then I shut the car down, and when it cools, it squeaks again.

I guess I am going to have to take off my pulley and regrease it or something? WD-40 wears off quickly, but I have some thicker grease I can use. Any tips on how to remove a power steering pulley?

Thanks for all of your help....hopefully the pulley is the problem.

Problem solved!!

Bought a new belt and the squeak went away!

Kind of weird though, since the WD-40 being sprayed on the pulley stopped the squeak, I thought it was the pulley all this time. The belt was craked though.

Next time, I will just remove the belt, then spray degreaser on.

Thanks everyone!
