• New Engine Almost Ready... :)

Well, after blowing a head gasket, I figured it would be a good time to get my new engine put in with a few goodies included. My mechanic has most of the stuff right now and the block is at the machine shop, engine should be in within 10 days or so, here's what's going in:

- Brand New 2002 GM 3800 Series II Block
- Bored 0.020 Over / Magnafluxed / Hot Tanked
- Brand New 2002 GM 3800 Series II Heads
- Fully Cleaned / Valve Job / Valve Seals / Reassembled
- Custom Pistons / Sealed Power Rings
- Clevite 77 Trimetal Main/Rod/Cam Bearings
- Prepped L36 Rods
- Prepped L36 Crank
- ARP 2000 Connecting Rod Bolts
- ARP Head Studs
- Fully Cleaned Intake Plenums / Hard Parts
- Pacesetter Ceramic Coated Headers / Y-Pipe
- Magnaflow 3" High-Flow Cat
- New GM Fuel Injectors
- New O2 Sensors
- Taylor Spiro Pro 8MM Wires / ACPlatinum Plugs
- Custom Mandrel Bent 3.5" Jet-Hot Ceramic Coated Cold Air Induction Setup w/K&N
- SLP 180* Thermostat
- Manual Fan Control Switch

I'm hoping that it will turn out to be a stout little motor, and with all the checking/prepping and the few upgrades and bolt on's thrown in, it should be. I will let you all know how it goes!

1. I would love the l32 connecting rods but i cant spend any more money than i already have, i settled for the arp 2000 bolts as i more often have heard about rod bolts breaking when under stress than the entire rod snapping, either way not much a choice money wise so the bolts were selected.

2. Stock cam, for now... Same reason as above that I can't afford the money for the cam and valvetrain upgrades just yet, need to get the motor in first. I'm not going to hand port anything b/c it's not really a big gain and I'm kinda busy right now, and if ported heads are in order later on, they will be professionally done.

Your going to have to be taking that engine apart again, to put that cam in. And it sounds to me like you wont be doing it yourself. Sounds expensive. :(

I have a good friend who happens to be an awesome mechanic, has a 9 sec race mustang and all that he built himself. But besides the bragging on his part ;) I get pretty good deals on the labor and stuff so it's not gonna be that bad. With the price of the engine included and all the labor and parts its coming to a little over $2400 for EVERYTHING. I got the new longblock for $800 off ebay and am having it fully disassembled, inspected, cleaned, rebuilt with upgrades, and installed, plus the other goodies going on top of it. As for the cam like I said before, that and any other big mods will not be anytime soon so it's not a concern at all. I'm just trying to get the thing initially setup right with the funds I have and all. Considering the stock motor with just a cold air intake, 3" catback, 3" highflow cat, removed a/c system, shortened belt, manual fan switch, and autozone 180 thermo with 85K miles was able to net me a 14.7, I think the new setup should be good for a low 14 pass if I get the balls to take it up there after its broken in. Only fear is that the last engine was a factory freak b/c it had 3.08's and an open dif with the auto so normally it shouldnt have been that fast. Hopefully this one will be just as quick.

** News:

ARP Head Studs, ARP 2000 Rod Bolts, Clevite 77 Bearings, Taylor Wires, and the 180 Thermostat should all be here by Thursday of this week and the headers came a few days ago! He is getting the rest of the parts himself.
