  • Engine clicking noise?

Yes.. in the wonderful world of my car.. some other part has broken. When I start my car (not while it's starting, right after it ignites) It's clicking.. the clicking speeds up if I rev.. but then i drive and it goes away in under 5 min. If i shut off the car, and immediately turn it back on.. it won't do it. If i wait a while it does.. any ideas? Starter? thx

Your starter certainly will NOT make that noise...

could be a little bit of valves sticking or something on a cold start, or injector pulse, which is no big deal. my V6 had injector pulse that was VERY noticeable on startup on cooler days.

I had the same kind of problem just a few months ago. It turned out to be a bad lifter. It will tick when first started because their is no oil to lube it. After the engine warms up oil is flowing well, tick goes away. I noticed with my car tick was very consistant with rev's.

Mine has been doing this for like 8 months. I believe it to be noisy lifters on my driver's side head.

Tried seafoaming it, different weights of oil..blah blah. Nothing bad has happened yet...

Next time you do a cold start on the car pop the hood and listen around (better to use some sort of tubing to help narrow down the sound). If it seems to be coming from inside the block rather than your injectors, or under your valve covers (rocker problem) then more than likely it is a lifter.

I suggest if you are going to do any kind of modding while fixing the lifter's than I would suggest a cam. You are already so deep into the engine that swapping cams makes a lot of sense. Rocker arms are easy to get to and can be swapped pretty easily.

are the hp gains from the rocker arms at the wheels or crank? do they put extra stress on the engine? thanks

They are at the crank I believe. Another thing about the rockers that I forgot to mention. You are talking about the 1.8 lifter/rocker combo? If you go with that you won't be able to go with an aggresive cam. The lift will be too much I believe. Not an expert on that so you might want to search or talk to other people about that.

Id say its something with the valves or a rocker arm or something, when ur oil pressure gets higher from driving its probably making the sound go away

Id definetely have your heads and rockers looked at.
