  • Sensor Question

I have a question about a sensor I broke on my 3.4. The sensor is towards the top and front of the block right above the motor mount and is round. I think its either a knock or temp sensor it has a green wire. The wire pulled out of the connector and I'm unsure if it will work by slipping the wire back in b/c theres a rubber gromment around where the wire goes. If it helps I can take a pic, let me know. Thanks!

Since when is the IAT sensor by the motor mount. It sounds like a knock sensor to me, I seem to remember taking that one out to drain the coolant from the block.

Knock sensor is on the passenger side under the exhaust manifold. It has a dark-blue wire.

3x crankshaft position sensor is also on the passenger side, below the knock sensor. It has yellow and purple wires.

24x crankshaft position sensor is on the front engine cover and has pink, pink/black and light-blue/white wires.

MAP sensor has a light-green wire + black and gray, but it's on the intake, not the block.

ECT has yellow and black/pink wires.

I think a picture would help.

Ok the pictures are on page 6 which I call the "Opps" Page. I shoddered the sensor wire back on and taped it so it holds. Hopefully it wasn't a very important sensor. If anyone knows what it actually is let me know. You think I could get a replacement with the wire already in it so all I have to do is cut the old one off and shodder the new on???

NOTE: The pictures kinda suck. IF you can't tell the wire for the sensor is Blue/Gray

I don't know anything about 3.4s, but that sure looks like a Knock Sensor on my car.

                  That's the passenger-side bank correct?

If so, it's definitely the knock sensor. According to Haynes it should have a single dark-blue wire. Knock sensor on the 3.4 as stated previously is below the exhaust manifold on the right side of the motor.

Ok well lets hope the sodder holds and I don't have to screw with it....Does anyone know if I buy a new sensor from somewhere will it come with just the sensor or a wire attached to the sensor??

A new knock sensor will come with just the sensor, not the wiring harness. You can get the harness at a dealer or at and AutoElectric if you all have them locally.

you can get a new connector "pigtail" from the dealer or somone that carries Standerd Motor Products parts line. Make sure that when you connect the new pigtail you use wire to wire connection and not any form of butt connector or your resistence valve will change.
