  • I got an idea, let me know what you think

Would there be any gains at all, or would it work if you ran a line from your condensor in your A/C that has your freon in it, and routed it around your intake, say a couple coils and back to your condensor to make a loop in the system to cool down your intake pipe. Wondering if you would see any gains from it. Just a thought i was looking into. I read about the new Ford Lightning, they do sort of the same thing but they actually use the A/C to super cool air for a nitros like affect.

good luck running the AC at the track..

in theory yes, but I'm working on something alittle different along the same lines that will not get you kicked out of the track.

well, 2 things. I dont ever run at the track. To me, i dont like the track. I want real time street able, rice eating. 2. Wouldnt the freon in the condensor be cold all the time. Thats what im thinking. But im not sure, i would need to look into it.

It wont be track legal, think of the condensation.

run it in the staging lanes then when you are about two cars away from racing. turn it off and wipe the water away. close the hood and race. i thought about it too, but i dont have enough time and money to mess with it. good luck

im not running it at the track. I am looking for real time street speeds. I dont care if i can strip the car down and run a 13.3 at the track when on the street i run a 14.5 because i have the belts and stuff back on. I run purely street.

any time you run the AC expect at least 10 minute wait before the condensation will stop driping from both the low side lines, drier, and evap core drian. So running it at all on the track is a sure way to get you kicked out or someone killed.

i dont know if anyone is actually listening to me when i say that i am not running, nor do i intend on running at the track, this is purely street.

Apparently no one is listening to you. For some reason they think, despite what you said, that you are track racing. Are you talking the normal or the SVT Lightning?

If it was me, I would visit message boards that cover the Lightning. Like this one www.nloc.net
I could be wrong, but is it the SVT Lightning you are talking about? With this? Pressure-charged. Eaton™ Corporation Generation IV Rootstype supercharger, water-to-air intercooler in vee.

svt lightning has this thing called nwe age nitros, its pretty neat the way it works, takes like 90 seconds to charge and charges automatically, when the throttle goes to wide open it discharges super cooled air into your intake from the ac system. supposed to give like 45 horses for about 30 seconds. Neat principal. Im just wondering if i could route my freon around my intake since its metal to kind of do the same thing, yet all the time, by cooling the intake pipe. the only problem i see is maybe condensation on the intake pipe. But no one can get past the fact that i dont go to the track, i am a purely street runner, just like to eat rice on the street. To me it defeats the point if you can strip your car down and run at the track, yet when you get pulled up next to by a ricer on the street, your 13.4 time slip dont do anything because now you have all your belts back on and only run a 14.5 and the ricer eats you up. Track numbers are cool, but to me they arent real world. Unless its a street car driven to the track for giggles, you know what i mean. No disrespect to the trackers, if thats what you like, nothing against it, just not for me.

I don't think wrapping cooling lines around the intake would really do much good. You would have to have a very powerful cooling system to significantly cool the air running through your intake. The volumes of air running through the intake, even during normal driving, would probably overpower the cooling from your system. Add to that the drag from running the compressor and you probably will not see any gains from it.

To make something like this work, I'd think you would have to determine the maximum cubic feet of air consumed by our engines, and then design a cooling system that can cool that amount of air or more by 'x' number of degrees. Maybe you could use an air to water intercooler and run freon through instead of water. Hmmm, interesting....

now that is a good idea Rob, thanks for the input, back to the drawing board, always looking for ways to get a little more power. Im going to look into how the lighting does it in more detail and see, exactly how they do it, from what i read they dont have to run there compressor at all. HMMMMM.
