  • 99+ Only: Cigarette Lighter Removal

Ok people, here's the situation. I have my car apart to repaint the interrrior. I took the shifter console plastic out. I'm trying to get the cigarette lighter assembly out of the console plate thing. I've checked with a few people on the boards before bringing up this question. I've come to find out that the assembly change in 99 so pre-99 models aren't the same. Anywho, what I'm getting at is; does anyone know how to get the assembly out of the shifter console? I've been fighting with this thing for like 2 days  I've looked all over that thing. There are some clips, I've tried messing with them, but to no avail. So, if anyone knows how to take it apart, or remove it, please educate me. Also, if you have pics, or can get pics, it would ease the explaination. Thanks again.

Well, I have the whole shifter console out, but my problem is removing the cig lighter assembly from the console itself. It wont just pop out. I've tried everything I can think to. I'm just hoping someone has taken the cig lighter assembly out, and remembers how.

Why would you take the cig lighter assembly out? does it need to be removed? If you are removing your center console, you just need to unplug the cig. lighter wire that goes to the assembly.

To paint the shifter console. It's the little details that make the difference. Since I've went through this much troble, I'm going to go ahead a remove it. There is a black plastic ring around the lighter assembly on the outside of the plate. I don't want to paint it, I want it to stay black. Taping it off is not an option.

Nevermind on the cig lighter thing. There are 5 grooves that run around the back of the black ring on the back side of the console. Dad got it apart by prying a tiny screw driver down into one of those grooves and the cig lighter assembly popped out of the clips. That's all. I'm not going to delete this thread so others can see it later on. If anybody else ever need help with this, you can ask me, I will try to help.
