Window wax fixes scratches?

Has anyone tried to use any kind of window wax to fill in scratches in the windows or windshield? I have some scratches from the wipers and from when I took the side panel off for speaker replacement. All the scratches are on the outside.

Maybe a window polishing kit, but I have some scratches on the windshield of my honda and they are a b*tch to get out!! I tried the kit, and the scratches remain.

Please explain this rather bizarre concept of "Window Wax"...Honestly, my "trick" is to take a buffer, (here's where it gets "wacky") and apply toothpaste (the more abrasive, the better!) all over the windshield...gauge cluster, etc. with the buffer just as U would wax 2 the body...let it dry to a haze, an' then buff it off. Sometimes it'll work wonders. Seriously. If U doubt me, try it on an ol' pair O' (sun)glasses, a watch face, etc.

Yeah, toothpaste is great for removing scratches but don't expect to do it with elbow grease unless they're really shallow and hardly noticeable.

Anything with any sort of depth requires a buffer.

Can I have any professional detailers comments on this? Abrasive toothpaste all over the windshield and side window would look funny for a while.

dude, tooth paste is low grit tooth polish. don't use gel...use normal paste style tooth past. It is a buffing compound. they put floride in it to kill bacteria but it is still a buffing compound.

Use toothpaste to remove scratches from CD's and DVD's as well. The acrylic shell on cd/dvd is soft. when it is scratched dvd or cd may skip or not play at all. (can you say Xbox or PS2?)

For a cd take a wad of toilet paper...get it wet with water..squirt a big gob of toothpaste on it...rub briskly in circles over scratched areas of cd, dvd, windshield...whatever. Clean with warm water..dry with soft cloth. Now you can finish that game...watch that movie, hear that song or see out your windshield.


I had a wiper go bad while far from auto store..raining hard. sucked. I used my mikita buffer on 900 rpm...lots of toothpaste...now you would never know that there was a big scratch in the window.

Paste...not Gel.

Ok, crest, colgate, baking soda, peroxide? Childrens? Which kind do you use?

The more "abrasive" the toothpaste (read: "Cheap"), the better. My personal preference is "Ultrabrite" Whitening. It's cheap as Hell...probably $1.00 or less, a tube. I'm thinkin' "Whitening" = More Abrasive...any dentist will probably tell U this. I also do it on CD's, etc. like Hommie said (Mild Dish Degergent also works pretty well, there). I'll tell U what though...I'm jus' glad there R more people out there that R "With Me" on this one. :cool: We'll jus' call it...say..."Automotive Hygeine" :D

I tried the toothpaste idea and now I'm not sure if its the buffer/polisher, or the scratches are too deep. The scratches are from the windshield wipers and sand between the door panels. After I used the toothpaste, the water I poured over it just sat there in a big blotch. I'm thinking that the toothpaste just washed off the rain x or something. Has anyone tried to use rubbing compound or clearcoat on their windshields?

If you have real deep scratches...well....that means more elbow grease.

you wont damage window by polisihing it with something like toothpaste.

I buffed out the wiper arm scratches on my car in about 5 minutes with toilet paper, water and toothpaste.

I have seen advice on this (window scratches) in zcar.com - started with 1200 grit wet sand paper and progressed to 2000 grit wet.

Test on a glass you don't mind messing up before you use it on your car. To see if it works and to practice the technique.

Old time polishes used were flower talcum powder and even ashes from wood fires - this was for very fine polishing and finish luster on silver and other metals.

WAIT, was I supposed to use water and toothpaste? I just cleaned off the glass, dried it, and then used toothpaste. Then I washed it off with water and dried it again and tried the toothpaste all over again. I did this 4 times

Toothpaste does not work on the scratches from my windshield wiper. I used water this time and the scratches still remain. I tried over and over again. If you had seen my car you would have laughed. My car was covered in toothpaste. There was white everywhere. I used aquafresh cavity protection.
