    Only smokes briefly for a second.What could be the problem? Serious? Normal?

    in NY it could very well be water in the pipes getting shot out, i really wouldnt worry about it unless its not white or smells like fluids

      This is normal for almost all high mileage Chevy's and indicates no problem whatsoever as long as it is only during startup after sitting for a period and only lasts for a minute or two.

      It's oil getting past the valve guides and pooling there, then burning off abruptly upon startup.

      Every Chevy I've owned has done it (I've never had a new car, lol) except for the fake little 86 Nova I bought for my wife, and that's because those things were actually made by Toyota.

        A little bit of smoke at start up that goes away after a few minutes is usually valve-stem seals. Cold, the seals let oil but, but once they warm up, they work again.
